Psalms and Creative Writing: LightbringerEvil has pulverized me.
I cry out for your grace.

Wandering the desert,
my heart thirsts for you.
Immerse me in your
living water.

In darkness, my spirit
slips from me.
Fill me with flame.
Make me a lightbringer
–Terry Chitwood

My verses were influenced by parts of Psalm 143. When evil descends into your life like a bird of prey, you need rescue. When your parched heart wanders the desert, you need to immerse yourself in the living waters of the Lord. As darkness covers the land, you need to learn how to burn brightly.

Evil

Evil seeps through the pores of your skin, entering your life through the most unlikely places, secretly plotting against you, and making you sick at heart. It penetrates the hidden crevices of your life, working in darkness to create havoc. You desperately need God.

Light

Only God can protect you from evil. “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe” (Proverbs 18:10, KJV). After being saved from evil on numerous occasions, you begin to trust God. And after surviving many battles you can petition God to become a lightbringer: a flame in the night.
