Blogging for God

A Celtic Christian Journey-Prayer
Viewing Your Life as a Drama

Like many, I felt called to blog. It was actually my husband, Terry, who first introduced me to blogging less than 1½ years ago. Interestingly, he was led to an article about a blogger, even though he never followed blogs. He felt that blogging might be something I’d be interested in doing. And he was right.

Blogging for God

Blogging is the perfect fit for me and makes use of some of my main talents and interests, which are writing, teaching and parenting (which I write about regularly), doing research (I love researching children’s activities and parenting ideas online for my blogs), and encouraging others (which I do both through Living Montessori Now and Bits of Positivity).

Even though my writing fits who I am, I think I’m really writing for God … writing because God wanted me to. And that makes writing a bit different … gives me a more serious approach to my writing. Am I really writing what God wants? What does blogging for God mean to me?

Radical Obedience

Sometimes God demands radical obedience of us at certain times in our lives. For me, blogging is one of those times. Am I willing to put in as much effort as God demands? Am I focused on what my readers really want and need? What sort of balance does God want in my life?

When my daughter and I were living in England because of her ice dance, we loved to watch the television series Joan of Arcadia on DVD. It often seemed to resonate in our lives … God appearing in different ways and asking us to do things we really didn’t understand at the time. We could only look back in retrospect to see why something was perfect. And that’s often the way it seems with God’s calling … totally understandable in retrospect.

Making a Difference

My favorite part of blogging is when I can make a difference in someone’s life. If I can encourage someone, help someone know how to parent their child, give ideas that will create more quality time between parents and children, or help someone make a difference in someone else’s life, then I truly feel I am blogging for God. If I write a blog post at a perfect time for someone’s life, that’s definitely God – and not me – at work. I can only hope that I listen well enough to hear what God is nudging me to do.

I think that if we truly listen to God’s calling, we can make a real difference through our blogging – or whatever it is that we’re led to do. At some level, St. Catherine of Siena’s words, spoken by the Bishop of London at the royal wedding in April, can be relevant for each of our lives:

“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.”

What a wonderful post. This makes me want to sit and ponder my purpose and goals that lay within my writing. Who am I writing for? Oh that I would always come back to the beginning and remember to keep the Main thing, the Main thing!

If that is really your calling or your mission in life then go for it. Writing positive thoughts makes great wonders to other people too. Writing is a very effective tool to relate and tell who really your Gos is. Go on with your task and I know many will be enlightened through your works.
