Taoist Pearls, Wisdom for Writers: At the Edgeat the cliff’s edge

the waterfall begins

–Terry Chitwood

Water flows over the edge of the cliff, never hesitating, at peace in the midst of its roar. If only we as writers could be so calm in the midst of change. Going beyond our self-imposed boundaries, climbing over the wall of fear, and entering the unknown can take the last ounce of our courage.

Edges

When our writing starts becoming uncomfortable, we are approaching our edge. What does the edge look like? Does the face of a person appear as you visualize your edge? If your edge is an object, what is its texture, color and shape?

New Eyes

Not going over our edges can stifle our creativity, trivialize our writing, and smother our souls. We revitalize our lives when we move across the threshold and discover new worlds . . . new perspectives. We learn to see with new eyes.

Flow

We learn to become water, constantly flowing. Fluid. Graceful. We are the stream of creativity, reflecting sunlight, mirroring moonlight. We are a silver sheen at night, bright gold at dawn. Clothed by the wind, we flow across the earth.
