Dark winds
pursue me.
I eat the
bowl of dust.
I drink the
cup of tears.
My words wither,
turning to smoke.
My hands burn
as I grasp
the sacred song,
The desert blossoms
and the river sings.
The land turns green,
–Terry Chitwood
My verses were inspired by parts of Psalm 102. When evil pursues you and there is nothing left to say, sing! Discover the sacred song in the desert, grasp it to your heart, and let your heart sing. Let the dust dissolve in the pure water of devotion, tears turning into joy. Watch the desert in your life bloom.
Spirit-Filled
“Be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:18-19, KJV). Psalms are songs, poems, and prayers. Many Christian hymns are composed with words from the Psalms. Vivid imagery which is the essence of poems populate the Psalms. When you recite a Psalm devotionally, you are praying a prayer of praise.
Dissolve Fear
You can meditate upon the Psalms as well. For example, take a line from Psalm 27: “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear” (KJV)? Meditate on the people you fear. As you visualize each person, imagine the fear dissolving into a soft, golden light. As the fear dissipates, give thanks to God.
