Forest Path

Your difficulties are not obstacles

on the path, they are the path.

–Ezra Bayda

In addition to quoting Bayda, Dinty Moore states, “With that logic, even the bad days are useful, even the obstacles are part of the path. Maybe I’m not writing anything worthy of preservation today, but if I’m at my desk, writing, then I am making progress . . .” (The Mindful Writer: Noble Truths of the Writing Life by Dinty W. Moore, pp. 125-126).

Writing as well as life can be like walking barefoot on a path of uneven pebbles – sometimes jagged, always stimulating. Pain, both physical and emotional, can be a great motivator – even, if only to find relief. What is your pain urging you to write about? Follow your pain’s incessant prodding. It has a goal. Let it lead you to wisdom.

The Stony Path

on the path

a jagged stone

pierces my skin

a trickle of blood

flowing from my

 bare foot

like red ink

from a pen

 writing the story

of my life

step by step
