Psalms and Creative Writing: Your Holy Heartbeat

The Lord reigns,
robed in rainbows,
ruling with steel strength
and an iron will.

The rivers sing
your praise.
You are mightier than
the thundering waterfall,
more powerful than the
crashing ocean waves.

The pulse of life is attuned
to your holy heartbeat–
forever.
–Terry Chitwood

These verses are my creative interpretation of parts of Psalm 93. These verses reflect the power and holiness of the Lord, clothed with images of nature, pulsing like the blood flowing through our veins. Herein are the images of the living God, radiating power and pulsating with holiness.

Realization

We need a God who is vibrant . . . and accessible. The Lord expects us to praise Him, to worship Him, and to bow down before Him. We need to realize His majesty . . . His holiness. If we get too close to the God of the Psalms too fast, we could get burned.

Ashes

It’s not that God would attempt to burn us. It’s like approaching the sun; its nature is to be incendiary. Paradoxically, God’s holiness will incinerate our spiritual impurities if we approach Him repeatedly through mystical prayer. We can only successfully approach God from the ashes.
